This year I attended my second and last HaU Statewide Conference at SFSU. I was very excited for the weekend because I had never been to the bay area, and a weekend with my hermanas was just what I needed after a stressful week. The ride up to SF was a lot of fun [see our video about conference for funny videos :)]! The first day of conference was empowering and informative. It is an amazing experience to see mujeres who have a similar background as you being successful in their careers and lives overall. In addition to the speakers, seeing so many hermanas from all over California together is so awesome because it is a nice reminder that you are never alone and that there are so many others like you going through the same struggles. Once conference finished we went to the Golden Gate Bridge which I was super excited about! I got so many cute pictures with my hermanas and seeing the bridge was a cool experience! The next day, I got to meet a lot of hermanas from different chapters during a scavenger hunt. The day ended with exploring pier 39 and starting our trip back to LA. Overall it was a great weekend, and for girls who have never been to conference I highly recommend it. I want give a huge thank you to the families of Evelyn and Isa for opening their homes to us, we appreciate it so much!! I can’t wait for my first conference as an Alumna ♡ Con mucho amor, Vanessa Zamora

One of my main goals for the upcoming quarter is to take care of myself, my mental health, and learn to say "no" more often. This quarter I took on a lot of work, from taking four classes, joining a research lab, being on steering and working part time I had little to no time for myself, much less sleep. This upcoming quarter I am setting an early goal; to limit myself from saying yes to a lot of things and focusing on my personal and mental growth. I think this is a goal many Hermanas may share with me because as the bad ass Mujeres we all are, often times we don't know how to say no to things and we believe taking on more makes us more successful and outstanding. But I have learned through my years at UCLA that it is much more important to make time to self care and sleep rather than taking on millions of tasks and drain ourselves. Some of my goals for self care include: - Take time to leave WW - SLEEP - Workout 4-5 times a week - Go home at least once during the quarter |
