In the fall of 2000 three young women joined together with one common goal: To establish a Chicana/Latina based group at UCLA. These three women, supported by a group of strong, motivated, young women like themselves, recognized the lack of adequate support & resources for Chicana/Latina women and wanted to help fill this void. These visionary women set the foundation for what evolved into a recognized and respected campus and community organization. Hermanas Unidas de UCLA combines academic, community service, and social activities to unite and support Chicana/Latinas along their pursuit of a degree in higher education while emphasizing HERMANDAD. |
Mission |
We provide resources and leadership opportunities for predominately Latina, college students and alumni by participating in and facilitating community service events, social activities/networking opportunities, and academic/professional workshops. Although we are a predominately Latino based organization, we are an open organization that welcomes all UCLA students and aim to create an inclusive environment.

Motto
|
This is the story of a young woman, her face in profile, depicted by the leaf and stem of the logo. This woman is on the path to enlightenment, through the pursuit of education, symbolized through the winding stem, which also represents the winding, challenging, yet rewarding road towards personal growth. Her path leads to el Quinto Sol, this is the fruit of her sacrifice, the sum of her experiences, the rewards of the relationships that she has built. This is the story of the Hermana that blossoms into a woman of truth, a better woman for having traveled that road. El Quinto Sol remains the focal point of our logo so that we may never forget where we came from & that we may keep clear where we are going together in hermandad.
