Hermanas Unidas’ first pillar is Academics. UCLA is world famous for its academic excellence- and HaU de UCLA works hard to meet, and surpass academic expectations. We put an emphasis on academics in order to empower our minds, our future, and our community. Our hermanas are dedicated to supporting each other through their academic journeys. Hermanas host weekly study hours in libraries on campus to encourage each other to study in between classes. In addition, study hours can be completed at our bimonthly Study-A-Thons where we go to Powell Library as an organization to study from 7-11pm to keep each other accountable and foster a better study environment. As Academic Chair I aim to provide our hermanas with the resources they need to succeed. Our monthly workshops range from graduate preparation to self care, anything our hermanas feel they may need. In addition we provide a book bank and test bank in order to save money and provide solid study resources. After providing these resources the Academic Chair will congratulate all hermanas for all their hard work throughout the quarter. During the quarter any member can send in an A they receive and are then invited to the quarterly 100 A’s social. Furthermore, any hermanas who receive more than 40 Study Hours per quarter are inducted into the Academic Honors Society. At the end of the year, the hermana with the most hours and A’s, is named the Academic Bee, the highest Academic Honor in Hermanas.
